At this re-launch of the journal Bereavement, we explore question, ‘Do need to decolonise bereavement studies?’ We do not offer definitive answers, but rather seek open up conversations. briefly some main debates and explanations what ‘decolonising’ means. In its broader understandings, entails questions about nature knowledge that underpins claims ‘expertise’, since inevitably reflects socio-historic position biography those who produce it. This raises uncomfortable issues ‘universality’ knowledge, how understand is shared between human beings, including experiences pain suffering. addressing of, ‘bereavement studies’, first consider complexities language translation, before observing heavy domination ‘psy’ disciplines in affluent minority worlds, oriented towards individualised, medicalised interventionist perspectives. indicate work seeks challenge these limitations, decolonising psychiatry itself. argue for such go beyond cross-cultural originating interdisciplinarity, crucial on equality, diversity inclusivity. as a field study set practices, needs take account legacies complex colonial histories exploitation harm continue shape world general, particular, aftermath death continuing lives living. conclude with implications ‘bereavement’ practice, from UK perspective.
